Google Sheets Credentials

Guidance on setting up authentication for the Google Sheets node in SMSPort.

Supported Authentication Methods

SMSPort supports two authentication modes for Google Sheets:

  1. OAuth2 (Recommended): Direct browser authorization using your Google Workspace or personal Gmail account.
  2. Service Account: Server-to-server credentials using a Google Cloud JSON service account key.

OAuth2 is the fastest and easiest method to connect Google Sheets:

  1. In SMSPort, open Integrations > Google Sheets (or click Create / Manage Credential inside any Google Sheets card).
  2. Choose OAuth2 (Recommended).
  3. Click Connect Google.
  4. In the Google popup window:
    • Select your clinic or organization account.
    • Check the box: See, edit, create, and delete all your Google Sheets spreadsheets.
    • Click Continue.
  5. The credential status will immediately update to a green Connected badge.
  6. Click Test Connection to confirm live API access.

Method 2: Google Cloud Service Account

If your organization requires service-to-service authorization without a user sign-in:

  1. Open the Google Cloud Console.
  2. Select or create your organization project.
  3. Navigate to APIs & Services > Library and search for Google Sheets API. Click Enable.
  4. Navigate to APIs & Services > Credentials and click Create Credentials > Service Account.
  5. Name your service account (e.g. smsport-sheets-sync) and click Done.
  6. Under the new service account, open the Keys tab, click Add Key > Create New Key, and choose JSON.
  7. In the SMSPort Web Console, select Connection Mode: Service Account and upload the downloaded JSON file.

Critical Step: Share the Spreadsheet

You MUST share your Google Spreadsheet with the service account email address:

  • Copy the service account email (e.g. smsport-sheets-sync@clinic-project.iam.gserviceaccount.com).
  • Open your spreadsheet in Google Sheets and click the Share button.
  • Paste the email and assign the role Editor.
