Interactive Buttons & Actions

WhatsApp message templates support interactive buttons displayed at the bottom of the chat bubble. Buttons make it simple for recipients to respond with a single tap, visit your website, or call your office.

This guide explains the button types available in SMSPort, quota limits enforced by Meta, and step-by-step configuration instructions.

1. Visit Website (URL Buttons)

URL buttons allow recipients to tap and open your website or web portal. SMSPort supports two types of URLs:

A. Static URL

  • Use Case: A single fixed link shared by all recipients (e.g. https://smsport.in/contact or https://mywebsite.com/terms).
  • Configuration:
    1. Click + Add button and select Visit website.
    2. Enter Button Text (e.g., View Pricing).
    3. Select the Static URL option.
    4. In the URL field, type the complete fixed URL beginning with https://.
  • Important Rules:
    • Variables ({{1}}, {{text}}) are strictly prohibited in Static URLs. If typed, they will be sanitized.
    • The Add sample URL review input is hidden because no variable review is required by Meta.

B. Dynamic URL

  • Use Case: Personalized customer links such as tracking an order, downloading an invoice, or booking a tailored slot (e.g. https://smsport.in/track/{{1}}).
  • Configuration:
    1. Select the Dynamic URL option.
    2. In the Website URL field, enter your base URL path (e.g. https://smsport.in/track/).
    3. Notice the dynamic suffix indicator {{1}} ⓘ displayed beside the box. Meta automatically attaches {{1}} to the end of the base URL.
    4. In the Add sample URL field, enter a realistic, working example link (e.g. https://smsport.in/track/TRK-98421).
  • Why Meta Requires a Sample URL:
    • When Meta's review team checks your template, they test this sample URL to confirm it leads to a valid, secure website. Omitting a sample or providing a broken link will result in template rejection.

C. Enable Tracking (UTM Parameters)

Check the box labeled Enable tracking (append UTM params). When activated, SMSPort automatically appends campaign tracking query parameters to the URL when broadcasting to contacts.

2. Call Phone Number (Voice Call Buttons)

When tapped, this button opens the customer's native smartphone dialer with your contact number pre-filled.

  • Button Text: Max 25 characters (e.g., Call Support, Speak to Reception).
  • Phone Number Format: Must include the + symbol, the country code, and the subscriber number without spaces, hyphens, or brackets:
    • Correct: +919876543210 or +14155552671
    • Incorrect: 09876543210, +91 98765-43210

[!WARNING]
Meta verifies the format of the telephone number during template validation. Omitting the leading + sign or entering an invalid country code will cause submission failure.

3. Copy Offer Code Buttons

Allows customers to copy a discount voucher or coupon code directly to their phone's clipboard.

  • Configuration:
    1. Click + Add button and select Copy offer code.
    2. Enter the coupon code in the Offer Code input box.
  • Character Limit: Maximum 15 characters.
  • Example: SAVE20, FREESHIP, HEALTH10.
  • Rendering: WhatsApp displays a dedicated copy icon next to the offer code. When tapped, a toast notification appears on the customer's screen saying "Code copied to clipboard".

4. Quick Reply Buttons

Quick Reply buttons appear as rounded pills beneath the message. When the user taps a button, WhatsApp sends that button's text back as an incoming message from the customer.

  • Use Cases:
    • Confirm Appointment / Reschedule / Cancel
    • Yes, I am interested / Not at this time
    • Speak to Human Agent
  • Text Length: Maximum 25 characters per button.
  • Visual Bot Integration: In the Visual Bot Builder, you can listen for the exact text of a Quick Reply button or route the conversation through a Switch & Multi-Case Node.

Operator Validation Rules & Constraints

  1. Combined Limit: The total count of all buttons (CTA + Quick Replies) cannot exceed 10.
  2. CTA Quota Limits: You cannot add more than 2 URL buttons, more than 1 Voice Call button, or more than 1 Copy Code button to a single template.
  3. No Special Symbols in Button Text: Avoid excessive emojis or all-caps shouting in button labels (e.g., CLICK HERE NOW!!!!). Meta will reject aggressive formatting.
  4. Duplicate Button Labels: Two buttons on the same template cannot have identical text labels.
